"Moved by Media"

Have you ever wonder the power of media to influence one's minds and his whole being? Have you ever notice the great consequences of irresponsible media communications which in turn affect one's personality and behavior? Basically, mass media is indeed a mighty influential factor to our technological and modern society. The worst thing is that media shapes and even builds a strong supremacy to one's thought that will eventually influences one's character. Living in  an advance world of systematic and complex transmission of organize and well-informed data and facts, no one could ever deny the perception of media and its great influential powers to dominate our minds and sometimes our personal decisions.

As an adolescent young men, I would probably consider media as a strong foundation to one's thought in which in turn affects one's character. Even I myself was depending to media in terms of gathering significant facts and information needed to my personal as well as academic demands. Without the presence of media, how could I ever know the news in other parts of the globe or even to my society which maybe an important one to know? How could I ever exchange what I wanted to share about my feelings and thoughts to somebody in distant places without using communication devices or internet connection? These questions are the things that circles my mind without media. Also, the fact that media influences my thought and eventually my character is something self explanatory. Take as an instance. Whenever I was dealing much with media, I could easily apply it to myself. Watching a television drama is an example. When I watch that the protagonist in the story works hard in order  to become successful person someday, there is a big possibility that it could influence my thought to work hard also in order to become a successful man. Because I watch that drama, I was moved by the character's personality which in turn influence my thought to become what he character is. This time, my thoughts has been influence by media and the result would probably also influence my character. It only shows that media connects mostly to our own perception and emotions.

Media is a living proof that no man is an island. The influential media turns its power to everyone , whether they like it or not. It is unavoidable. Nevertheless, media is a moving power.

In the end, whenever we could find ourselves keep in touch to the tentacles of media, we should be able to comprehend and understand that media could influence our thought and character just in two ways -  in turn to good or in  turn to get bad. But being a person close to media is a great responsibility. One should be witty enough to understand the consequences and the circumstances he could get whenever he deals with media. One should be strong enough to face the following pressures and chain reaction he might get whenever he turn media in an irresponsible action. One should be mindful enough to create the best and wise decision needed to become a responsible person dealing much to media.

In this sense, no one could ever deny the influential power of media to mankind. We must be a responsible person - a person who was moved by media.

Iligan City At Its Fullest!

Froi Edrian V. Bebit

Philippines is a vast archipelago blessed with stunning beauty and extraordinary view which are indeed one of the magnificient gifts our God has shown to us. Known for its grandeur and charm, the "pearl of the orient" has something more to offer than we could ever comprehend. Lies down south, one will witness the lush, rich unique experience to a city just standing in the historic island of Mindanao, the industrial city of the south. Despite of the fact that it is situated at the foot of the country, it remains beautiful and exeptional in appearance from its head to its toe.
The vicinity of downtown Iligan.

Iligan City - this is what I am talking all about. It was not just distinguished  as an industrial haven but also a magnificient city of majestic waterfalls. This one of a kind city was derived from the Higaonon term "iligan" or "ilijan" meaning fortress of defense. With a total land area of 813.37 square kilometers, Iliganons were living peacefully within 44 barangays. This spacious place is a home to some 461,370 people and a base to numerous great features and spots.

Apparently, Iligan offers much emphasis to everybody whoever wants to visit its glamor and fascinating elegance. To prove that this is truly right, here are some tidbits of these alluring attraction.

Majestic Maria Cristina at its grandeur.

First in the list is the charismatic, aggressive Maria Cristina Falls which our city has been known for. Throughout the years, it has been used as the strong symbol of Iligan City to signify great might and power. Maria Christina Falls is the main power and electricity source for the surrounding and nearby places and  provinces. It look only  9 kilometers from the city by taking a nice jeepney ride trip from the city's pier to the Agus Bridge. The grandiose and impressive falls is more than 300 feet high and plunges into the smashing Agus River. Its magnificient and vigorous scenery would definitely drives you up to energize and to feel that the whole trip is a worth craving for.

The captivating Tinago Falls with its extraordinary appearance.

Next on the list is another God-given gift,  another  brilliant falls. But this time its more gorgeous and secretive. It it referred as one of the most beautiful and captivating falls in the country and one of the most admiring scenes in Iligan. Tinago falls is the place to be. Came from the Cebuano term "tinago" which means hidden, this magnanimous, terific falls is indeed hiding to its privacy by a nature covered with lush, thick trees and other wild vegetation and plants. This towering falls is 420 feet in height.  One must to exert much effort in to go downhill just to witness  its beauty and excellent attraction .

On the other hand, a trip would be such unforgettable when the food that is offer is surely and absolutely delectable. Iligan city's puso or rice covered in a coconut leaf would take an ordinary rice into simply creative. Iligan houses abundant stalls of delicious feast which everyone would definitely eating for.

Aside from these facts, Iliganons were also known for their hospitability. Iligan city experience a warmth of friendliness and kindness.  They actually treat everybody as their family and attaches them as brothers.

In this matter, I am very much proud to say how am I blessed to witness and discover the unparalleled treasure Iligan city's obviously have. It  was a mind-blowing idea that I, a student in a foreign land, had step on the grounds of the majestic city of Iligan. It's a wishful thinking  that I have done a nice and irrevocable decision to enrol and to continue my tertiary education here in Iligan. I came from the province of Maguindanao, but I truly love what Iligan city possesses.  Now, I currently taking up BS Electronics and Communications Engineering at Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology. and I very much fun in discovering more interesting facts to my new home.

Lastly, whenever you would like to feel what I have just feel right now , just witness this must-see city and discover for your own sake what these spendid treasures lie deep and buried in a city which now live at its fullest!

 "Cultivate Your Own Unseen Treasure"

"Then he said to him, 'Child, you have always been with me, and all the things that are mine are yours; but we just had to enjoy ourselves and rejoice, because this your brother was dead and came to life, and he was lost and was found'  ". - LUKE 15:31,32

It was a frantic, mind-blowing dramatic film that conveys a religious pact family bondness each Filipinos would love to have. It proves to be a rare treasure which adapts suitable theatrical  representation of an contemporary version of the parable of the prodigal son. It leads every audience to feel the reality that has been portrayed in the movie with a painful cancer to our mind that has been cured by our deep faith mixed with an unconditional love of our God.

Personally, I have seen this dramatic movie many times but the essence is still going strong and moving that would definitely lead you to another world, a world full of sympathy, happiness and love. I always feel the great pressure which the cinema bestowed upon me. It makes myself to fall in a huge intensity which covers   my whole body.

In the first part of the movie, which shows a typical, ordinary scenario in a church, my ears keep hearing the overwhelming music of the sound track. My eyes were closed but my ears were opened. Then several thoughts have come to my mind while I was enjoying that sound. This time, I have realize what do I have to be precious and to be treasured. Do I have something to cultivate inside of me that lie deep within myself? Unseen treasure? Curiosity then follows to the fact that the title of the film expresses  a mysterious but unified idea: to appreciate and be thankful to what you have possess , either unseen or a visible treasure.

Dialogues were deeply moving. The acts were committed to be exceptional. All of the cast were all well-trained and developed with striking lines and words. In accordance to this is the emotional uplifting, heavenly musical accompaniment blended in the movie which adds the poignancy and to the story of the film itself.

It is indeed a simple family oriented saga but an unforgettable work of art. Everyone is all dramatically in focus; antagonists became protagonists. Message, story, idea of the cinema expressed... all of them shows how our identity and culture truly was.

The things that would remind me a lot when I have just finished watching the film were the idea that we, Filipinos, gave much high value on our religious belief and love our God wherever and whenever we face difficulties and struggling circumstances. We always built our faith strong enough to cope up for the big battle. We always stay close to Him. Though we all witness long-suppressed pains and successive resentments, we frequently believe that God is always be right there.

At last, whenever you would feel that you like to experience the same as I had experience, just watch the must-see movie and discover for your own sake what these "unseen" treasures lie deep and buried in yourself and into your life!

"That Great, Mysterious Play"

"A great play of mysterious subjects...something that we, as Filipinos, may be proud of." - this is how I would describe Steven Patrick Fernandez's "MingMing: A Play of Hide and Seek". It was my first time to witness an informative but mystifying play, and I got very interested to find the real thing behind of it.

As I entered the room, I've seen that the play started just after I closed the door. Immediately, I find a seat near to the stage where the two creatures of "life after death" were noticeably laughing. They seems to bother me in a way that they keep on laughing and extending different body movements. My mind where filled with questions, asking what was really happening to the plot. Finally, they walked through the stage and released the covering cloth where a dead women body was lying on. And the real story goes on.

I found out later, with an open forum held just after the play , the whole story and what it really talks about. The production is a sensitive dramatic play of powerful political Muslim families in the south. The story revolves on MingMing's identity, her family roots, and their dominant traditions and religious beliefs and clashes. Three generations were presented in the drama, with their controversies to survive and cope up conflicts of religious fanaticism, tradition, and a modern  living issues.

At first, tonongs, the spirits who lift the shroud of death of MingMing, witness the affair and struggles of human life and madness. They are mischievous creatures, carefree and playful which in the end, uncover the hidden secrets and crises of  the said generations. They were laughing with no particular reason, at everything or at nothing.

At the stage, three figures, one male and two females, were sitting on a table, not doing a motion, and their blank faces lost of emotions and feelings. They were MingMing's relatives. The younger woman named R is MingMing's liberated mother, having two failed marriages. In addition, MingMing is the product of a love developed between her mother's affair with an Economics professor in a university at Manila. It brought R to kept her pregnancy to hide the shame of  the family honor. On the other hand, the tradition-reared woman named I is MingMing's grandmother. She was subjected to a family decision in marrying a man he doesn't know at all in orded to end a bloody rido ( family feud) which is happened to be the elder brother of the bearded man named P. He is a  leader of in troop and adopts in strictly following family as well as religious views. However, their names may be read as R, I, P, respectively.

Covered with a romantic plot, the message of the play extend to Moro history, politics, religion, and woman-related issues. The story gives a non-formal structure and manner. The images, sounds, and other symbolic actions used were a some kind of piece of a puzzle of resolutions. The language were unique; dialogues do not meet. There is no coherence in terms of conversation. The characters do not even talk  to each other and lines overlap and crisscrossed without unification. Time reference also adds confusions to the audience because the characters of the whole play were separated in different time but grouped to a same stage.

Whatever what the play conveys, there is always a suspense whenever I want to get back on the play. It begins in the end and left queries that only viewers will satisfy answers. There is a sense of mysteriousness in each characters and the message they try to impart. For me, it gives more questions than answers. In the end, it is  a great, unforgettable play and indeed one of a kind!

"Her With Him"

Best friends can be your best enemy. But do you know that your best enemy can be your best friend , too? There is no exemption  when friendship rules. You don't care what or who she was. Well, the story that you will going to read is an experience of two enemies which became best-friend in the end .An experience that will not only depict  a friendship sort of story but also a romantic, childish love narrative.   Two people who don't get along with each other until such time that they became the closest of them all.

HER - a girl who hows the real her; a girl who values friendship; a girl who has sense of humor. A girl who was there when you feel down and alone, helps you in bad times, always giving advices. But honestly, during our elemantary years although six years I spent with her, we never get along with each other. We argue a lot. I really don't like her attitudes. She talks frankly not thinking the feeling of others. She's a kind of braggart also. Most of my classmates can't also get what she really is. We graduated in elementary, but still, we didn't have the chance to know each other and be a close friend.

When I entered the secondary level of school, I didn't expect that we will be in the same school. During the first and second year in this institution, I still can't get along with her. As the junior years of ours start, I began to catch up what her attitude. I began to see the positive view of her. As I noticed, she began to change those attitudes which some of us don't ever like. It was the last year of our high school life when we became close to each other. I opened up problems with her and also she was with me. We do a lot of things which we think so enjoyable. We eat at the eatery together with our barkadas.

As far as I know, a junior of ours was courting her. If I'm not mistaken, he had also a crush on that guy. As timed passed by, she gave her YES to that guy on the 7th of July. She told many stories about that guy when they became couple. Their call sign was ADIK. On my observation, they're unlike those lovers who shows their affection on public which is also known as PDAC or public displaying of affection. Instead, they are both shy with others and I think they are afraid also with the criticism of others. Their relationship at first was a secret. Only senior students knew it and teased them. She became worried but the guy told her that he will take care of it. Until such time that all of the people inside the campus discovered it. Students. Teachers. The guy's parents.

I just remembered when we were practicing cheer dance, she was so shy to perform. That guy was also a member of that group. They also joined a press conference. For me, they are the ideal couple of the campus.

I also remembered that day before our promenade, it was Valentines day, she was in the faculty making sash for the awards, when that guy went there and noticed there are roses in his hand. The teachers get some of it and only one was left. Our teacher in MAPEH told him to give that rose to her. She landed the rose to the table where the sash was made. But our naughty plans started again. We blocked the doors and told him that if he will not give it properly, they cannot go outside. They had no choice. Majority wins as they said. In spite of shyness, he gave the rose to her. Also on the promenade, they were partner in the walts. As they arrived in the venue , they're like celebrity couples. Flashes of cameras were noticed. Teases of others were heard. When you look at them, you can't deny to smile as if it was you're happy for them.

Although many trials came to them but still, they hold on. Regardless to the problems they've may face. Still, they hold on. Either one of them give up so easily, still the CELVINS 07 was there. Kicking and alive.

Back to her, now she studies as University of Southern Mindanao which means they are far from each other. Hope distance will not interfere and give a gap with them. And also I hope that they will hold on no matter might happen.

Indeed, I am a fan of the process of their relationship. An experience of mine to witness my said to be enemy but now, my best friend . It may sound weird but for me, it's not. I know she was happy with that guy and I, myself, was happy for her too. I believe they will endure and strengthen each other, happy and contented, her with him.

"Hard Thing To Do"

Letty Jimenez - Magsanoc's "That Sweet Unforgatable Day" is a narrative story which tells about a personal and subjective experience that is, indeed, difficult to verify physically but well-narrated in a manner that is sincere and moving.

On the story, the narrator tries to show her busy preparations for their family's long-time houseboy and family cook wedding as if she was trying to ignore and forget the pain of knowing the absence of her mother. That wedding made herself and her whole family to be distracted of what they really feel. With some circumstances, her father bought huge potted plants with white flowers looked like magnolias not knowing that the said flower will be the way to reminisce her mother.

Upon smelling the scent which was the same as her mother's scent, she tried to ignore it first but the scent was so powerful and dominant at the room. Curiosity arose her and decide then to call his father upstairs for him to feel what was happening in the place. This made her to feel awkward. That felling began to drive her brothers and sisters as they slowly stepped downstairs. Now, they all feel the presence of the dead person and it was the first time for them to become happy after that traumatic death.

Personally, I don't believe of afterlife stories which are basically mythical to understand. Life after death doesn't exist. A soul that has been died will never be back in the surface where he sometimes lived in.But its the emotion of grief or humanistic imagination that lead us to feel that it is real. Its also shows how powerful our mind is. We are capable to create realistic imaginations which in contrast, are lies. However, it has a positive side towards one's emotion in order to lessen the heaviness of the truth. In this sense, we believe on lies and fallacy.

Nevertheless, I will admit that this thing helps someone to ignore the pain of one's death. It is really true that trying to forget someone who passed away was a "hard thing to do".

"I am What I am"

"Melancholic" - an adjective which I guess the best word to describe my personality. It sounds quite unfamiliar but actually, it tells about the finite description to whom I am. It serves as a window to look upon in a crowded place, showing what I truly have, my features and my aspects. Melancholic means seriousness. It conveys emotional imbalance or a behavioral attitude. It may appear negative but in reality , not. Naturally being a melancholic, I am perfectionists and moody, my actions look to be analytic and I like to be alone. My attitude depends on the things that would influence mine. I am capable to handle my emotions. Although I am a serious type of a person, I basically find it easy to interact others. I would be nice to someone nice or be mean to someone mean. Indeed, I am not afraid to show what truly I am. And I am proud of it.

Froi Edrian Vente Bebit is my complete name but my friends used to call me "Poy". I am 16 years old but my maturity comes in an early age. I lived in a place locally known as a war zone where bombs and killings were an ordinary scenario, Maguindanao, but it doesn't stop me to become an educated person. I started my primary education at Parang Central Elementary School and fortunately graduated as class valedictorian. I pursue my secondary level from ARMM Regional Science High School and again received the highest award. Presently, I am taking up BS Electronics and Communications Engineering at Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology and a lucky DOST scholar.

Actually, I advocate knowledge. Knowledge would be powerful wherever it is turn into use. This is why I value my education most. It escapes an innocent mind to the wilderness of ignorance. Through knowledge, one has the ability to put every action into power.

Now, I am believing on my principles. We are living in a world full of imperfections. Crowd usually criticize because of others mistakes. But remember, we are not perfect to judge . I am not saying these because I am perfect as a human being but , I would  rather say  this lines:

"I am not perfectly wise. I am not perfectly witty. But see, I am perfectly me."
